Learn About Nordic Winter Used Tires

Engineered for grip in deep snow and on glare ice without the need for metal studs, the Goodyear Nordic Winter tire is a winter-only line. It is made in sizes to fit a wide range of American and imported passenger cars. This line uses a pliable tread that is heavily zigzag siped to bite frozen surfaces, including packed snow. Some examples may have studs. Because of different handling characteristics, stud-free tires from this line should not be mixed with studded tires on the same vehicle. All sizes have black sidewalls. This line is rated for speeds up to 112 miles per hour.

The tread is aggressively blocked in all four ribs. The shoulders are open and multisided for extra traction, with multiple zigzag sipes for winter and wet-road bite. Each pair of shoulder blocks is bridged for strength. The inner ribs resemble hockey sticks that overlap at the "toes," with generous zigzag siping for bite in each block. The "handles" of these blocks splay toward the shoulders, creating a directional, flat-bottomed "V" shape. The grooves between the blocks are wide, promoting navigation in deep snow and providing drainage of slush and water to the sides of the tire, discouraging hydroplaning. There’s ample rubber for decent response. Some newer examples may have an additional central rib but retain effectiveness in snow and on ice and packed snow.
