Firestone tires are made by one of the oldest U.S. tire makers, Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., which is now owned by Bridgestone of Japan. Firestone’s early success traces to its selection by Henry Ford as supplier of tires for the Model T. The company was involved early and continues to be involved in motorsports in the U.S. and abroad. Firestone tires continue to be produced in the U.S. Depending on the line they employ such modern features as variable tread pitch for quiet operation, steel belts for stability and long wear, and silica-containing tread compounds for all-weather traction. Some Firestone-branded tires sold through discount retailers, including Walmart, are made to the retailers’ specifications and warranted to the original owner by the retailer, not Firestone.

Firestone lines include tires for pickups and SUVs, the Destination LE2, A/T and M/T. All-season lines for sedans include the Affinity Touring, Precision Touring, FR710 and Winterforce, a studdable snow and ice tire. High performance tire lines include the Firehawk Wide Oval, AS, Indy 500 and GT Pursuit. The Precision and Affinity Touring lines and Winterforce tires also come in sizes to fit minivans and crossovers. Lines no longer produced but plentiful on the used tire market include Wilderness off-road tires, the FR440, and variations of the Affinity, Precision and Firehawk lines.
